Shaw Industries Group Inc. — a Dalton, Ga.-based floor covering provider and subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. — is installing solar panels on the roof of Plant 15, its carpet tile manufacturing facility in Cartersville, Ga. The panels are expected to produce annually some 1.4 million kilowatt hours of power — enough to power approximately 100 homes in Georgia annually — and will help provide energy for plant operations.
"Within Shaw's holistic approach to sustainability, we continually explore opportunities to improve energy efficiency and employ renewable and alternative energy sources," stated Paul Murray, vice president, sustainability and environmental affairs, Shaw. "Solar is a mature, reliable power source, and the economics made this a viable, long-term investment for this facility."
The installation is expected to be completed some time this month.
