African Packaging Organisation was created, following an approval from the World Packaging Organisation (WPO).
The aim of this body is to improve the standard of packaging across Africa by employing various strategies, such as supporting its member organisations, improving packaging capability in Africa and striving to increase trade throughout Africa.
APO has under its umbrella Institute of Packaging Professionals (Kenya), Packaging Council of South Africa, Tanzanian Institute of Packaging and Institutes of Packaging in Ghana, Nigeria, Tunisia and South Africa (IPSA).
In addition, all WPO members have also been included.
Joseph Nyongesa, representing Institute of Packaging Professionals in Kenya, was elected as its first president and Ahmed Alex Omah of Institute of Packaging, Nigeria, became the first vice president.
