More 'switching From Macs to Surface Than Ever,' Microsoft Claims

It's that time of year when companies crow about what a wonderful year it's been.

Why, only last week Apple CEO Tim Cook insisted that Apple Watch sales are so very "hot."

He didn't offer any Fahrenheit, Centigrade or sales numbers to quantify that heat. Now, Microsoft is doing the same.

November was the Surface's best month ever, Brian Hall, Microsoft's corporate vice president of devices marketing, said in a blog post Monday. He added that the "momentum was seen worldwide."

Hall did offer one number: more than 10 million people have watched the Surface Studio launch video since it was posted in late October.

Goodness, that's a lot of people. And how many bought the product? Oddly, that figure is absent.

However, there can be little doubt that the Surface Studio launch eclipsed Apple's launch of its latest MacBook Pro -- at least in terms of YouTube hits.

Then came Hall's biggest reveal. "More people are switching from Macs to Surface than ever before," he said.

How many more, he didn't say.

Apple didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Hall did, though, heap on the scorn: "Our trade-in program for MacBooks was our best ever, and the combination of excitement for the innovation of Surface coupled with the disappointment of the new MacBook Pro -- especially among professionals -- is leading more and more people to make the switch to Surface."

Time, perhaps, will reveal the truth. That's unless the switch rate grows so high that Microsoft can't resist revealing an actual number.
