Central Chairman Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) Ijaz A. Khokhar has underscored the need of formulating sector wise trade policies to boost the country's exports.
He appreciated the new trade policy and urged the government to implement it in letter and spirit and address global challenges faced by exporters. He told a Pakistani news agency that the government should to take concrete steps to extend support to fashion industry and enable products innovation in line with the fast changing fashion trends.
“Timely support from the government will help enhance export volume and enable the manufacturers/exporters to follow modern fashion trends. We are lagging behind due non-availability of skilled workforce and non- availability of raw material due to which we are unable to fulfill the demands of foreign customers”, he explained. He stressed the need for formulating a “road map” for business, and aggressive marketing policy for achieving benefits of GSP Plus (Generalized System of Performance).
Khokhar said it was heartening to note that the government, under Textile Policy 2014-19,was making efforts for achieving the objectives through strategic Master Plans particularly for export promotion, SME development, technical textile and sub-sectors.
He pointed out that Pakistan's major competitors such as India and China were utilizing all the channels and resources for capturing the world market.”Under the prevailing situation we need to opt for similar approach to survive well in the market,” he said.
