Canadian food processing company Maple Leaf Foods plans to establish a new distribution center in Puslinch Township, in the County of Wellington, Ontario, Canada. The center will act as the company's prepared meats distribution hub for central and eastern Canada.
The company has selected DB Schenker as the third-party logistics provider with responsibility for its center's operations.
The 282,000 ft2 distribution center will combine ambient, refrigerated and frozen products into one facility. The centre will be built and owned by a third-party investor and leased by Maple Leaf Foods.
Maple Leaf Foods president and CEO Michael McCain said this new facility will simplify the company's distribution network and significantly increase its supply chain efficiencies.
According to Maple Leaf, the center's location is in proximity to Maple Leaf Foods' eastern prepared meats facilities including the 402,000 ft2 facility currently under construction in Hamilton, and provides ready access through the 400 series highways.
The company plans to proceed with the appropriate regulatory approvals immediately, while the construction expected to commence this spring.
The distribution center will be commissioned in the first half of 2013, with the consolidation of its existing distribution centres in Moncton, Burlington, and Kitchener to be completed by 2014.
