Crystalwise Technology and Tera Xtal Technology have reported sequential growth in revenues for October 2011, while Crystal Applied Technology posted a drop. Crystalwise reported October revenues of NT$100 million (US$3.3 million), a 33% on-month increase from the NT$75 million in September. However, the figure represents a 48% on-year decrease. The accumulated revenues from January-October reached NT$2.02 billion, representing a 42.38% increase on year. Crystalwise expects November performance to be flat. Crystal Applied reported large drop of October revenues to NT$36 million, an 87.5% decrease on year. Crystal Applied reportedly lost a major customer in China, which caused the large revenue drop. The accumulated revenues for the first 10 months of the year reached NT$1.84 billion, showing a 7.58% on-year decrease. Tera Xtal's October revenues were NT$113 million, a 2.7% increase on month and 45.7% decrease on year. The accumulated revenues from January-October reached NT$2.11 billion. Alpha Xtal, soon to be merged with Tera Xtal, reported October revenues of NT$17 million, a 40% increase on month and 60% decrease on year. The accumulated revenues reported by Alpha Xtal for the first 10 months of 2011 were NT$310 million, representing a 69.72% increase on year. Industry sources indicated the sapphire substrate market grew mainly due to demand from LED chipmakers to make up for the inventory clear-out that took place in the third quarter. However, the LED industry has been reporting mixed performances due to unclear order visibilities. The LED industry has hit the bottom, but the price drop has seen signs of stopping, according to industry sources. The price drop is likely to ease in fourth quarter. Demand from Taiwan-based LED chipmakers has been weak, sending sapphire substrate makers looking for customers in China. Source: www.digitimes.com
