US-based Molson Coors Brewing Company has expanded its presence in the Indian market with the acquisition of Mount Shivalik Breweries for undisclosed amount.
Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
The acquisition will give the second largest beer company in North America control of two breweries, besides adding strong beer brand Thunderbolt to its lineup.
Founded in 1972, Mount Shivalik has brewery operations in two northern states of India - Haryana and Punjab.
Molson Coors International president and CEO of Kandy Anand said: "We are very pleased to be deepening our partnership with Mount Shivalik, which has always been based on shared values and business ambitions.
"With our combined resources, brewing expertise, brand portfolio and a focus on quality and innovation, we are confident that MSBL's reputation for delighting India's beer drinkers will only grow going forward."
Both the companies have had contract brewing and distribution partnership since 2013.
Mount Shivalik Breweries chairman Rajiv Bali said: "We are fortunate to have a strong partner in Molson Coors, a leading global brewer with a proven track record for building and growing iconic brands around the world".
Molson Coors forayed into India in 2011 when it purchased Cobra India.
Coors Light, Molson Canadian, Carling, and Blue Moon are some of the major brands of Molson Coors.
