DS Smith Opens New Consumer Packaging Facility in Germany

UK-based corrugated packaging provider DS Smith has opened a new consumer packaging facility in Erlensee, Germany.

The company has invested €50m to develop the new facility, which will support the company to provide better services for its customers in the region.

DS Smith started construction on the facility in August last year and completed it in September this year.

Featuring latest printing and finishing technology, the new 45,000ft² facility includes production and logistics facilities, as well as conference rooms and offices.

The company has developed the new facility to replace its previous site in Hanau, which is not meeting the requirements of current industrial business model.

Erlensee facility will also consolidate firm’s display and consumer packaging activities in the region to maximise efficiency.

DS Smith noted that all 250 members of staff from the previous site will work in their current roles at the new facility.

The new facility also includes Impact and PackRight Centre, which enables customers to collaborate with DS Smith to produce effective packaging solutions.

In addition, the site features Trend & Innovation Area for visitors to gather information about new developments in the industry like virtual reality applications.

DS Smith Germany and Switzerland consumer packaging and display sales director Tobias Häfner said: “We are committed to servicing our customers as best we possibly can and ensuring we have the right facilities to do this is crucial.

“This new development is testament to that commitment and we hope our customers feel as excited by this as we do. We believe that with this plant we have created the largest and most efficient site of its kind in Europe.”
