US based synthetic yarn producer, Unifi, Inc. said it is expanding polyester texturing capacity in the US and Central America to support growing demand for synthetic yarn in the NAFTA and CAFTA regions.
Unifi is expanding capacity at two US plants and also at its plant in El Salvador which will help it support growth in its premier value-added product lines with expansion expected to be completed by June 2015.
“The expansion also reflects Unifi’s commitment to the Americas and to servicing the growing number of customers who choose to source their products in the western hemisphere,” it said in a press release.
According to Unifi, regional synthetic apparel production has continued to grow over the last five years, at an average of 5 to 6 per cent annually.
"We are very encouraged by the continued growth of synthetics in the U.S. and Central America, and the opportunities it presents for the textile industry,” said Roger Berrier, president at Unifi.
“We are committed to investing in this region to provide the increasing amounts of synthetic yarn and other innovative products our customers require,” he added.
“This expansion is one of the key projects that we identified to help drive profitable growth for the Company, and is a planned part of our increased capital spending for this fiscal year,” Berrier observed.
Unifi, Inc. is a multinational manufacturing company that produces and sells textured and other value added processed yarns designed to meet customer specifications.
In addition to its flagship Repreve products, a family of eco-friendly yarns made from recycled materials, other Unifi brands include, Sorbtek, Reflexx, Aios, Satura, Augusta, A.M.Y, Mynx UV and Microvista.
