Princesse Tam.Tam bagged the best intimates/swim design team award at WGSN. Staged by WGSN, the world's leading fashion forecaster, the WGSN Global Fashion Awards recognise and reward brilliance in fashion and retail design across the globe.
The awards were presented at a star-studded, exclusive gala event at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
Princesse tam.tam was founded in 1985 and is now a global brand producing lingerie, swimwear, resortwear, homewear and sportswear with a worldwide network spanning 48 countries, 160 boutiques and a dedicated e-store.
All this stemmed from small beginnings when sisters, Loumia and Shama Hiridjee, opened a gift shop in Montparnasse, Paris inspired by the fragrance and colours of their childhood in Madagascar. Soon they created a range of lingerie inspired by a Josephine Baker film, Princesse tam.tam. The company continued to grow becoming a subsidiary of Fast Retailing in 2006. On 26 November 2008 Loumia and her husband Mourad tragically died in the terrorist attacks in Mumbai.
Today the brand is headed by Pierre-Arnaud Grenade who presides over 792 employees, 96% of whom are women. Over the past three years, the brand has renewed itself with the launch of a new store concept, new ranges and collections (homewear and sports), and international expansion with the opening of the first shop in Japan in 2012.
All the bras, briefs and swimwear are worked on by the machinists in Princesse tam.tam’s workshops in Paris and its specialist design team using Calais lace, European cotton and Chinese silks. Each bolt of cloth is checked for uniformity of colour to ensure consistently high standard for each product. Sizes and elasticity are reassessed for each design as comfort is key, and so is fashion which is at the heart of every collection. Each season brings its own exclusive prints and fabrics, which are used in unexpected ways creating a new twist and taking technical expertise one step further.
