The luminous efficiency for LED lighting has now risen to 100-150lm/W and is expected to keep rising to 200lm/W in five years and to 220lm/W in 2020, according to Solid State Lighting (SSL) Fellow George Craford at Philips Lumileds Lighting.
While Philips Lumileds has attained a performance-cost ratio of 1,000lm/US$ for LED lighting, the ratio is expected to rise to 2,000lm/US$ in 10 years, thanks to continued increases in luminous efficiency and decreases in production and packaging costs for LED chips used for lighting, Craford indicated.
Based on its strength in developing high-power LED lighting, Philips Lumileds has extended development to mid-power LED lighting, Craford said.
