The first images of the new-generation Ford Mustang have been leaked online, a day ahead of the muscle car’s official multi-continent reveal.

Originally printed on the pages of Autoweek magazine, the Ford Mustang screen shots were posted online by a member of enthusiast website SVTPerformance.

CarAdvice continues to abide by an embargo agreement not to release official images and details before 11.30pm, December 5, Australian time.

Proving recent renderings fairly accurate, the images show an evolutionary rather than revolutionary design, with the sixth-generation Ford Mustang retaining many styling elements of its predecessor, albeit with sharper edges and modern details.

Inside, the previous model’s deep-dish steering wheel and dual-gauge instrument cluster are also carried over, though, are now accompanied by modern tech such as a centre stack-mounted MyFord Touch screen.

The first new Ford Mustang in eight years is also set to feature a 90kg-plus weight reduction, independent rear suspension and an engine line-up comprised of a supercharged 5.0-litre ‘Coyote’ V8, a 3.7-litre V6 and an all-new turbocharged 2.3-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder petrol.

Due to be simultaneously unveiled in six cities tomorrow – including Sydney – the new Mustang is set to start production around July before arriving in Australia from 2015 when the American icon will fill the role of Ford Australia’s local hero car following the demise of the Falcon – including the recently announced reborn XR8 – in 2016.
