According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in February this year Turkey's flat steel imports, including hot rolled, cold rolled, coated and narrow strip steel, fell by 6.1 percent compared to the previous month and were up 46.1 percent compared to February 2012, totaling 464,667 metric tons. The value of these imports amounted to $308 million, decreasing by 5.3 percent from January and up 27.5 percent year on year.
In the first two months of the year, Turkey's flat steel imports amounted to 959,723 metric tons, decreasing 21.8 percent year on year.
In the first two months this year, Turkey's hot rolled flat steel imports from Russia amounted to 209,224 metric tons, more than double year on year. Turkey's second biggest source of hot rolled flat steel imports in the January-February period this year was France with 156,742 metric tons, also more than double compared to January-February 2012. Ukraine's flat steel exports to Turkey in January-February amounted to 150,632 mt, up 9.7 percent compared to January-February last year.
