Indian Feel That Quality Variation in Cotton Will Start After a Fortnight

The All India daily kappas arrivals are approximately 2 lakh bales. Approximately 1.20 crore bales have arrived in the market and getting sold consistently as Mills and exporters are covering as per their requirements. North Mills and a few South Mills have started procuring even at little higher rates as they feel that quality variation in cotton will start after a fortnight.

Kappas arrivals are good in Gujarat, Maharashtra & Madhya Pradesh as Farmers are getting good prices for their produce. In Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka Farmers are reluctantly bringing kappas in the market as they are not happy with the kappas prices they are fetching for their produce.

This is due to high micronaire value in the cotton in areas surrounding Guntur and many other pockets of Andhra Pradesh Cotton in Raichur too in Karnataka has high micronaire value compared to the previous years. As per CCI the cotton arrivals touched 84.31 lakh bales as on 22.12.2013 this season against 97.50 lakh bales same time last season.

NORTH ZONE [PUNJAB /HARYANA/RAJASTHAN]

During this fortnight, the inflow of seed cotton progressed crossing the daily average above 20,000 bales. Unit prices also in upward trend went around Rs.4400 per maund spot. Farmers group of the view that they expect atleast minimum spot prices to be Rs.5000 range to meet the cost of cultivation which will reduce their financial burden.

Those who can afford may wait to transport to Mandies expecting an increase in unit price. Few farmers started thinking of installing cc cameras to minimize crop theft. They need to mobilize support for mechanization to reduce dependence on manual labour. Mill buying is supportive to clear the stock pileup in Mandies. Foggy weather continued.

GUJARAT:

The daily kappas arrivals are approximately 65000 bales. Good quality S-6 is being procured at Rs.40,700/- spot per candy due to sudden surge in buying by both domestic Textile mills and exporters in the last 4 days. Kappas prices are around Rs. 4900 per quintal.

Weather is conducive and plants’ health is fine and bursting is normal.Quality variations are rampant. Lack of crop rotation is affecting the per ha yield.Nutrient management need to be motivated as per report by scientist who have visited the cotton fields in Gujarat.

MAHARASHTRA:

The kappas arrivals have suddenly improved in the last fortnight and approximately 50,000 bales are arriving daily.The prices for good quality Bunny is quoted at 39,900/-Spot per candy in areas surrounding Wani in Vidharbha while in Khandesh it is sold at Rs.39,600/- Spot per candy. Farmers are unable to hold for long due to lack of storage facilities and foggy weather. Farmers are not happy with ruling prices.

MADHYA PRADESH:

During this fortnight seed cotton arrivals is around 10000 to 12000 bales daily. Ruling average prices are around Rs.40000 per candy spot for Mech-1 lots. Mill buying has begun. Quality lots are on the look out by Mills. Here again Mic. variation is noticed among lots and price variations are abnormal. Weather hindrance to Kappas transportation. DCH32 lots are in high demand with upward price brackets.

ANDHRA PARDESH:

The kappas arrivals are poor in Andhra Pradesh and kappas prices per quintal is around Rs. 4400/-.Cotton in Adilabad is sold at Rs.40,500/-spot per candy while in areas like Warangal it is sold at Rs.41,000/- Spot per candy. Local Mills in Andhra Pradesh are actively buying at the moment. Daily average arrivals are around 30000 bales. Due to Telegana bifurcation, marketing mechanism need reorientation and adjustment.

KARNATAKA:

The kappas arrivals are good in North Karnataka in areas surrounding Bijapur, Hubli, Haveri, Chitradurga, and farmers are getting kappas prices of around Rs.4650/- to Rs.4800/- per quintal while in Raichur kappas arrivals are a bit less at the moment as kappas prices are comparatively less.

Prices for good quality 30 mm bunny in Raichur and Hubli is Rs.40,500/- Spot per candy while 31 mm is sold at Rs.41,500/ -Spot per candy. Local Agricultural University has advised the Farmers that they should hold cotton kappas till February,14 to avail better price as per reports. Farmers find storage bottlenecks and lack of pledge facility.

TAMILNADU:

During this fortnight, the seed cotton arrivals have picked up and ruling prices are on upward trend. As stated in earlier reports, the crop in southern belt is in poor shape in many tracts. Yield also will be less. Mills off take is continuing as the cotton lint prices started moving upwards.

The withdrawal of 2% export incentive on cotton yarn has upset the Yarn exporters in particular. African Cotton delegation met ICF and SIMA representatives and discussed bilateral issues on cotton business promotion.

ICF discussed on logistics delay, quality and contaminants in cotton and their Govt. regulations and also proposed a Buyer /Seller meet to promote African cotton and direct marketing mechanism. This is the third delegation which was representing Burkina Faso, Senegal and Mali coordinated by M/s.Dibella India, Bangalore.Our President Shri.J.Thulasidharan along with other directors discussed important issues with the visiting delegates.

INTERNATIONAL:

Global cotton lint prices continued its upward trend with the New York future market is around 84.64 cents per lbs and Cotlook A Index @89.70 cents per lb.In China stock pile up is being auctioned and they are planning to subsidise the cotton prices to help Farmers in reducing their financial burden as per reports.

China holds around 60% of Global cotton stock. In Pakistan cotton lint prices are moving upwards due to Mill demand. In Pak. Punjab Govt. to assure 16 hours power supply to help Textile Industry as reported by All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA). Argentina Govt. to fund for mechanisation to Farmers, from cotton planting to harvesting. Mexico to increase cotton acreage in 2014. Burkino Sofitex co., gets 65 million CFA to fund for cotton campaign in next harvesting season.

Burkina Faso to harvest 650000 tons of cotton in 2012-13. South Korean Co. L.S. Mtron to supply mini tractors to Uzbekistan for cotton harvesting. Russian Govt. plans to develop cotton production in specific areas.

Greeks average cotton yield has touched 322 kgs per ha as per reports. Rains are reported in Texas, USA. Indian firm shown interest in cotton processing in Kyrgysthan. Iranian scientist invented mixing of Silicon/Copper with cotton makes cotton waterproof and antibacterial. Mr.Terry P.Townsend, Executive Director of ICAC retired on 31.12.2013 after 25 years of dedicated service to Global Cotton promotion and Mr.Jose Sette took over from him as Executive Director, ICAC.

ICF had close Association with Mr.Terry P Townsend in the promotion of Cotton and we wish to continue to be so in future also. We welcome Mr.Jose Sette. In 2014, cotton leads program, the norrowing road between cotton grower to consumer, stability and prosperity, connectivity and communication network, valley irrigation etc. will strengthen the cotton promotion as per reports.
