Samsung C&T's subsidiary in Taiwan began selling crystalline silicon wafers, conductive pastes, components and materials used in making solar cells and modules in the local market in the second quarter of 2014, according to industry sources.
Samsung C&T Taiwan's solar wafers are mostly monocrystalline models produced by China-based OEMs, while its conductive pastes are produced by South Korea-based Cheil Industries, which has just merged with Samsung SDI, the sources indicated.
The firm has had PV silver pastes tested by some Taiwan-based solar cell makers and may also introduce PV aluminum pastes, the sources said.
In addition, South Korea-based SMP, a polysilicon joint-venture established by Samsung Fine Chemicals and US-based SunEdison, will start volume production using fluidized-bed reactor (FBR) technology in the fourth quarter of 2014 and is likely to market polysilicon in Taiwan through Samsung C&T Taiwan, the sources indicated.
