BASF Will Display Polyurethane Solutions for Energy and Climate Protection

Worldwide chemical company BASF announced on August 29 that it will display polyurethane (PU) solutions for energy and climate protection, mobility, construction and housing at UTECH Asia/PU China 2011 which will be held from September 6-8 in Shanghai. "BASF is playing an active role in finding answers to today's increasing global energy challenges such as rapid urbanization, surge in power demand, an escalating mobility rate, and population growth, " said Dr Melanie Maas-Brunner, Senior Vice President, BASF Polyurethanes Asia Pacific. "BASF is fully committed to developing customized PU system solutions to create the chemistry needed to help customers of different industries reduce their carbon footprints, enhance their product performances and become more competitive. Our Polyurethane Solutions products are designed to improve eco-efficiency and are inherently durable, therefore, contribute to the long life of the end products which contain them. " According to the press release, BASF PU systems, namely Elastopor, Elastopir, Elastospray and Elastocool, provide a sustainable solution along the cold chain through better energy efficiency. This rigid foam system allows better regulation of storage temperatures in refrigerators and freezers to keep food fresh at every step along the transport and storage stages while saving energy in the process. Its low thermal conductivity and good physical properties, such as low density, result in reduction of energy and raw material consumption as well as heat loss and CO2 emissions. Elastoflex Paper honeycomb with PU is light and considerably strain-resistant, offering good adhesion to substrates and noticeable reduction of sound and vibrations, making it suitable for application in trunk floors, sky roofs and rear shelves, BASF said. Elastoflex Long Fiber Injection (LFI) is processed with a specialized PU mixing machine, which injects cut fibers together with PU mixtures. This process simplifies the conventional manufacturing method and costs while increasing productivity, as stated. Thus, it is said to be a good solution for automotive exterior parts like roof modules and interior parts like instrument panel substrates. Further introduced is the Pure 1.2 Balance is a high-performance concept shoe made with BASF's versatile, lightweight and durable PU. This shoe is produced using new recyclable and eco-friendly materials based on renewable materials, with a minimum of 40% in content.
