Arizona Burn Center at Maricopa Medical Center, US has started deploying Diversionary Therapy Technologies' (DTT) ditto device for pediatric patients in its Burn Unit.
The ditto device was gifted by Avnet, a distributor of electronic components, computer products to Maricopa Health Foundation.
Avnet community relations vice president Teri Radosevich said the ditto device, which is an interactive technology can help children understand medical procedures and reduce anxiety in them.
''Burn Centers provide critical services for patients during a time that can be very traumatic, so making this grant to the Pediatric Department at the Arizona Burn Center is even more rewarding," Radosevich added.
Ditto device has research, which by using distraction and educational techniques at the same time lowers stress and anxiety prior to or during a procedure.
The device, averts pediatric patients' attention from a negative experience, using an interactive touch screen, colorful marker keys and an automatic response to physical movement.
Arizona Burn Center child life specialist Lori LeSueur said, "The ditto offers a quality combination of education, engaging games, and appealing stories to enhance children's understanding and coping with the hospital stay."
The ditto, which resembles a traditional video game console, includes interactive games, stories and procedural preparation tools.
