Ireland's Reprographic Systems installed the first Crystal 5080 XPS exposure units in the UK.
XPS Crystal is claimed to produce LED UV Exposure that is digitally controlled to result in high quality and highly consistent flexo plate making.
The company has also invested an undisclosed sum in a couple of Kongsberg Digital Finishing Cutting Tables along with Esko WebCenter software.
A digitally controlled exposure unit, XPS Crystal 5080 is capable of providing near simultaneous exposures. It is compatible with all the important photopolymer flexo manufacturers.
Reprographic Systems managing director Paul Vaughan said: “We are taking competitive advantage and winning new business. This important investment is a natural progression.
“We have been waiting to complete our digital solution with Esko’s new exposure technology. From front end to dispatch, Esko’s continuing commitment to innovation is exceptional and groundbreaking.”
XPS Crystal 5080 is part of a platemaking system that is completely automated and is linked to a CDI imaging unit. It is claimed to deliver digital flexo plates that are capable of printing at high levels of quality on different kinds of substrates.
One of the key factors driving plate stability is UV exposure, which Esko says is rapid and keeps the finest lines and text intact onto the flexo plate.
According to Esko, complete automation of XPS Crystal 5080 comes by the linking of the machine to the new fully automated CDI Crystal 5080. By this, the overall plate making process is reduced from five manual steps to one single step.
Esko UK/EIRE sales manager James Mason said: “Over the years we have established a strong relationship with Reprographic Systems and this latest round of investment has come through deep understanding and a detailed analysis of their needs and future aspirations.
“It is rewarding to know they continue to regard Esko as their partner of choice when it comes to ‘joined up’ innovation.”
