The consumption of polyvinylchloride (PVC) in Russia this year may increase by 30% compared to 2010, according to Natalia Proskurjakova, Chief Marketing Officer of RusVinyl. RusVinyl is a joint venture PVC company backed by Solvay, BASF and Russian group Sibur. According to Proskurjakova, the increase will come mainly from domestic production by Kaustic, one of Russia's leading producers of PVC and caustic soda. However, the increase will not resolve the current lack of PVC in the Russian market, which is expected to remain a problem for the next three to five years. At present, most of the imports of suspension PVC comes from the US and Asian countries, whereas emulsion PVC comes from the EU. Last year, PVC imports reached a historic high of 486, 000 tonnes. Suspension PVC accounts for 90% of the total consumption of PVC in Russia. Source: European Plastics News
