The US floor-coverings concern Armstrong World Industries (AWI), will build the production plant for luxury vinyl tiles (LVT) announced at the end of July at its headquarters site in Lancaster. Building work is to start in the first quarter of 2014 and commissioning is scheduled for the beginning of 2015. The investment volume, which was originally quoted at roughly US$40m, was revised during the course of the final considerations on location to US$41m. Armstrong will employ a work force of 57 for the new LVT production. The company, which until now has sourced the LVT range marketed in North America from China, aims to improve cost structures and shorten delivery times with the development of its own production in the USA. As a result, the company's share in the North American LVT market, which is still showing double-digit percentage growth, is to be expanded. Armstrong had announced the LVT investment project when presenting its business figures for the second quarter.
