The Kia GT4 Stinger concept has been teased for the second time in two weeks ahead of its Detroit auto show unveiling later this month, with a 235kW turbocharged engine and rear-wheel drive now confirmed for the sports car.
First teased last month from a bird’s-eye view (pictured below), the latest front-on image of the Kia GT4 Stinger concept shows the latest iteration of the South Korean brand’s signature ‘tiger nose’ grille, highlighted by a glowing white surround and flanked by fourteen vertically stacked LED lights.
With a low-slung Audi R8-inspired look, Kia says the 2+2 sports car concept features a carbonfibre front splitter, front-brake cooling vents and custom 20-inch wheels.
Power will be exclusively sent to the rear wheels via a 235kW turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine in what will be Kia’s second rear-wheel-drive concept following the 2011 Frankfurt motor show unveiling of the 290kW/534Nm 3.3-litre turbocharged V6-powered four-door GT concept.
The GT4 Stinger’s 2.0-litre unit is also tipped to feature under the bonnet of sister brand Hyundai’s next-generation Genesis Coupe set to reach local shores in 2015.
Kia’s first-ever hot-hatch, the 150kW/265Nm turbocharged 1.6-litre Kia Proceed GT, is due to arrive in Australian showrooms in March. Sharing its four-cylinder powerplant with the Hyundai Veloster SR Turbo, the Proceed GT is expected to rival the likes of the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Ford Focus ST with a circa-$35K starting price.
