Materials science company Ecovative has selected Kenactiv Innovations as a raw material supply partner in the deployment of its new mycelium technology, a sustainable alternative to expanded polystyrene (EPS) and other plastics that are petroleum-based.
Kenactiv's research, technology, and manufacturing departments joined forces with Ecovative to develop a custom solution of kenaf core enhanced by the treatments and processing methodologies of Kenactiv.
Ecovative director of operations Justin Frisino said the lightweight strength, absorption capacity and sustainability profile of kenaf core solution is suitable for the company's composite solutions.
"We needed a partner who could supply not only the right bio-based solution, but also at the consistency and scale required to support our various product markets, including protective packaging," Frisino said.
Kenactiv manufactures diverse industrial and consumer products meeting the US manufacturing demand for natural fiber solutions from kenaf.
