Samsung Reportedly to Release Two Versions of Upcoming Flagship Galaxy S6 Handset at MWC

Samsung is reportedly planning to release two versions of its upcoming flagship Galaxy S6 handset at this year’s Mobile World Congress.

According to Business Insider, which cites ‘sources familiar with the company’s plans’, Samsung will use the occasion to show off a doubled-down effort on this year’s smartphone line-up.

MWC is due to run from March 2-5, and usually sees a host of prize gadgets launched by top tech firms, Samsung included.

So what exactly is Samsung up to here? Well apparently, the first phone will be a metallic offering, with the South Korean firm snubbing its previously plastic modus operandi for smartphone design.

While we’ve seen metal-esque devices before (read: Galaxy Alpha), but they’ve typically landed as Samsung-sired experiments rather than taking prize place as a flagship device.

The report claimed to be unsure whether we’d see a full-metal unibody design, or a more subtle metallic frame – we’ll keep our ears to the ground on this one.

Next up is the second Galaxy S6 variant, which will riff on the Galaxy Note Edge with a curved screen that wraps around both edges of the device.

One final titbit of info gleaned from the report is talk of a round-faced smartwatch being up for launch at MWC.

This is interesting as just last week saw news break of Samsung reportedly working on a round-faced smartwatch called 'Orbis', to rival the Moto 360 and its circle-loving cohort.

Most of the report falls in line with what we’ve heard so far, although it’s interesting that there’s now a solid release date tagged onto all three devices.

Stay tuned.
