The Timber Price Indices - based on Forestry Commission sales and consisting of the coniferous standing sales price index and the sawlog price index - have been published today (November 10th). Figures showed that the average price for coniferous standing sales was £14.77 per cubic metre overbark standing in the year to September 2011. The coniferous standing sales price index for Great Britain was found to be 16 per cent higher in real terms in the year up to the same month when compared with the same period in 2010. It also indicated that the softwood sawlog price index was just over seven per cent higher in the six months leading up to September 2011 when compared with the corresponding months last year. The Timber Price Indices are the only official statistics published for roundwood timber prices in the UK and so are often used as indicators of price trends in the region. In recent years, softwood has accounted for more than 90 per cent of all timber harvest in the UK. This news item is brought to you by KMS Baltics in conjunction with Fest-Forest and EST KINNISVARA.
