Nissan is recalling around 841,000 vehicles globally after a fault related to their steering wheels was discovered.
Affecting Nissan Micra models – also known as the Nissan March in some markets – built in Britain and Japan between November 2002 and May 2006, and Nissan Cubes manufactured in Japan over a similar period, the recall relates to a fault with the steering wheel bolt.
Reuters reports the bolt used in the affected cars may not have been properly tightened and, worst case scenario, could result in the steering wheel ceasing to function correctly.
The report states that the recall covers cars in Nissan’s home market of Japan, as well as across Europe, Asia, Oceania, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East.
A Nissan spokesperson told Reuters that no accidents, injuries or deaths have been reported relating to the recall.
The fault will be fixed by the car maker by either tightening the bolts or replacing the entire steering wheel assembly with a new unit.
Nissan Australia’s Peter Fadeyev told CarAdvice the global recall does not affect any local vehicles as the Nissan Micra was not introduced into Australia until November 2007, “well past the affected production range”.
