CAF Provides Webinar on Various Free Trade Negotiations,Import Duties and Trade Policies

Canadian Apparel Federation (CAF) provides webinar on various free trade negotiations, import duties and other trade policies affecting the apparel sector. Webinar will be held on 28th November, 2:00 - 3:00 pm.

Canadian Apparel Federation’s Executive Director and government relations lead Bob Kirke will update on the key issues and developments in Canada's trade policy.

The past year has been characterized by a high level of activity on the trade policy front.  During 2012 Canada implemented a Free Trade Agreement with Jordan, made significant progress in negotiations with the European Union and increased its focus on Asia.

Canada is currently negotiating agreements with a number of major apparel and textile producing nations. With its recent admission to the Trans Pacific Partnership negotiations Canada is poised to establish new trading relationships across the Pacific.

In addition to these issues developments relating to import duties on apparel and related tariff concessions (LDC and GPT) are also of great significance, and will be dealt with in the webinar.

Key agenda items include:

an update on Canada's trade agenda including a summary of trade agreements in place and under negotiation, including CAF position; an update on duties on imports of apparel and their impact on consumer prices; and an overview of tariff preferences in place and likely consideration of same over the next year.

The Canadian Apparel Federation (CAF) is the national association for Canada's apparel industry. CAF represents the nearly 75,000 people that are employed in the industry. CAF is made up of firms from across the country, and represents the full range of firms that make up the industry, from small suppliers to national brands and vertically integrated retailers.
