The First Komori GLX 740RP Carton Printing Press Will Be Installed by Chesapeake Limerick

Chesapeake Limerick, part of Chesapeake’s Pharmaceutical and Healthcare division, will install the first Komori GLX 740RP carton printing press as part of a euro 4m investment program at the site in Ireland.

According to Chesapeake, the new seven-color machine includes a reverse printing unit and double coater, and is said to be part of a major company-wide investment program that has benefited all of its operations.

The reverse printing unit will enable the company to provide an opportunity to its customers to print information such as user instructions on the inside of packaging.

With the double-coater on the new press, Chesapeake can combine matt and gloss varnishes and metallic finishes. The coater will also assist in delivering effects such as 3D Glint product, holographics and micro-embossing.

Over the past three months, the Limerick site has benefited from the installation of a new cut & crease press, a CTP unit and an advanced image verification system.

Chesapeake Limerick operations director Morgan Fogarty said the GLX has offered increased automation and environmental related improvements.

"Its dual-camera inline quality inspection system, spot measurement and Komori's new spectral density control has helped to optimise product consistency," Fogarty said.

In the last three years, the company has installed a range of presses including a six-color Komori Lithrone 40's at its Nottingham, Leicester and Belfast operations, all of which produce cartons for the pharmaceutical and healthcare market.
