Morton Salt, a unit of the K+S Group, is planning to end packaging and warehousing operations at its facility in Chicago, the US.
The cessation of the operations will be completed by this October-end, putting 23 jobs at risk. However, the company will continue to maintain a business presence on-site.
Morton Salt packages and stores ice melting salts and other bulk salts at the facility which are sold to commercial businesses.
The move follows Morton Salt's analysis of the Elston Avenue facility which showed that it would be more efficient to serve customers from other sites in the company's network.
Morton Salt CEO Christian Herrmann said: "The Morton Salt facility on Elston Avenue has an iconic presence in Chicago.
"That's why we will explore all possibilities related to the future of the property and the infrastructure upon it. Our company was founded in Chicago and we are committed to the long, rich history we have here."
Earlier in June this year, Morton Salt signed a lease agreement to relocate its headquarters from Wacker Drive to the new River Point property in Chicago.
The plans to shift headquarters forms a part of the company's business and cultural transformation strategy. This follows the company's recent brand revamp.
By shifting its headquarters, Morton Salt will bring its 300 employees from its current downtown headquarters office and its 50 customer service center employees currently based in Oak Brook, Illinois under one roof.
Morton Salt produces salt for culinary, water softening, household and road deicing, food processing, chemical, pharmaceutical, and numerous industrial uses.
