Japanese carmaker Toyota Motor (TMC) has launched the new Auris hatchback in its home market, which will also be on sale in Europe.
According to the carmaker, the new hatchback is offered with two powertrain options which include 1.5litre 1NZ-FE engine that is offered for both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, while 1.8litre 2ZR-FAE is offered only with front-wheel drive models.
All the 1.5litre engines will be mated to super CVT-i transmission that enables the hatchback to offer 18.2 km/L fuel efficiency, while 1.8litre variants will be mated to 6-speed manual transmission, offering a fuel efficiency of 16.0 km/L.
Features of 1.8-litre models include enhanced Valvematic and dual variable valve timing-intelligent (Dual VVT-i) technologies, calibrated intake and exhaust valve timing, enhanced compression ratio, and lower friction.
Toyota is aiming to sell 2,000 Auris models per month in Japan and the model will be on sale at a starting price of JPY1.71m ($21,515).
