Mitsubishi is planning to end the production of Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and replace it with an SUV.
Autocar reported that Mitsubishi product boss Kanenori Okamoto has confirmed the reports regarding Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution's exit from its production plans.
The company has not come to a conclusion regarding the model that will form the base of the new SUV, but it is expected to include technology inspired by its electric vehicle MiEV Evolution, and might have four-wheel-drive system.
Selling plug-in in vehicles is not new to the company as it previously shipped hybrid version of the Outlander in Europe and Asia and is planning to introduce it in the US.
Mitsubishi UK managing director Lance Bradley said: "Green is still fun to drive. It's a challenge to make it fun, but not a particularly difficult one. Electric vehicle performance is very good."
