Overland Journal Awarded Cooper Discoverer A/T3 Light Truck Tire

Overland Journal has awarded the Cooper Discoverer A/T3 light truck tire its "Editor’s Choice and Value Award," as reported in the Summer 2014 issue.

Overland Journal, a publication for worldwide vehicle-supported expedition and adventure travel, tested the Discoverer A/T3 against seven of the most popular all-terrain tires. "Through a comprehensive comparison of 10 different evaluation exercises, the A/T3’s high-speed control, predictability and wet-pavement traction stood out at the top to showcase an impressive range of performance attributes both on and off the road," says Cooper.

The magazine's testing was performed by Joe Bacal, a professional driver skilled in testing off-highway vehicles. As a former lead evaluation specialist for Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. and a Baja 250, 500 and 1000 winner with Team Lexus, Bacal is regarded as one of the foremost four-wheel drive performance evaluators in the United States.

“Since its debut, this tire has become one of Cooper’s most sought-after light truck tires," says Scott Jamieson, Cooper's director of product management. "The success of the Discoverer A/T3, coupled with this accolade, is evidence of our focus on crafting quality tires that perform and meet the real-life performance needs of consumers.”

According to Scott Brady, publisher and chief evaluator of Overland Journal, the A/T3 "demonstrated superior ride quality... and skid pad handling. It cannot be overstated how well the tire performed overall on the pavement.

"In the end, the Cooper Discoverer A/T3 was also the overwhelming champ at speed on the dirt as well. After a controlled 75-mph drift on the gravel oval, Joe Bacal summed the tire up as ‘ridiculously fast.’ The Cooper is smooth and effective at speed, with limited oversteer and no notable overshoot upon countersteer.”

The Cooper Discoverer A/T3 also was ranked No. 1 among 13 tire lines tested by Consumer Reports in its November 2011 issue.

The tire features an aggressive five-rib, all-terrain design; a silica-based tread compound; dual draft tread element walls; lateral groove protectors; and a broken center rib.
