In May of the current year, the aggregate gross profit of industrial enterprises in China's Shanxi Province amounted to RMB 5.37 billion ($869 million), up RMB 1.47 billion ($238 million) compared to April but lower than the average monthly gross profit figure of around RMB 10 billion ($1.6 billion) recorded in recent years.
In the first five months, the aggregate gross profit of industrial enterprises in Shanxi Province decreased by 50.4 percent year on year. In the given period, industrial sectors in Shanxi which recorded overall gross profits included the coal, electricity, food and equipment manufacturing sectors. In January-May, the aggregate gross profit of the coal industry in Shanxi totaled RMB 15.96 billion ($2.6 billion), down 60 percent year on year.
In the first five months, 1,643 industrial enterprises in Shanxi recorded net losses, with most of these enterprises operating in the coking and steel sectors.
