American Power Source Inc Would Layoff 50 Workers at Its Fayette and Columbus

American Power Source Inc.,which makes clothing for US Air Force personnel, has announced that it would layoff 50 workers at its Fayette and Columbus,Mississippi factories.

The company said the layoff is due to loss of orders to Federal Prison Industries, owned by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The industries located inside federal prisons manufacture clothing items for various federal agencies, including the military, which pits it in competition with private firms like American Power Source.

The Fayette unit was opened by American Power Source in 2001,followed by the Columbus plant in 2003.

The company said it has so far supplied 237,104 good-quality apparels and has always delivered on-time,by adding shifts when required to meet early shipment requests.

Recently, the company invested US$26,000 in new equipment to better meet the requirements of its customer.
