Sonoco Flexible Packaging has announced an investment of $9.7m in a bid to expand its Morristown, Tennessee facility in the US. The expansion will create 26 new jobs in Hamblen County.
Located at 5701 Superior Drive, the Morristown expansion will include facility upgrades as well as the addition of a new rotogravure press in the company's flexible packaging division.
Sonoco Flexible Packaging vice president Bob Puechl said the company will add next-wave technology that will allow it to better meet the changing needs of its consumer goods clients.
"If you have been in a supermarket or any other retail outlet lately, you have seen the great increase, not only in the variety of products, but in the variety of packaging in terms of sizes, colors, shapes and types," Puechl said.
The new equipment is set to begin producing commercial products from 1 September and will enable the company to offer flexibility, speed and quality demanded by its customers.
Sonoco has operations in more than 30 countries around the world and its decision to further invest in Morristown is said to be a testament to the state's location and transportation infrastructure.
The company, which provides consumer packaging, industrial products and protective packaging for various industries, had a presence in Morristown since 1992.
Morristown Mayor Danny Thomas said, "The additional investment of over $9 million into its facility is a strong commitment into the future of its company and our community."
