China's Ministry of Finance has announced the subsidies for built-in PV (BIPV) systems and normal solar PV installations. The subsidy for BIPV is CNY9 (US$1.43)/watt while the subsidy for normal solar PV installations is CNY7.5/watt. The final subsidy standards will depend on the market price of solar products, according to Ministry of Finance. The subsidy program is aimed to expand the BIPV market in China, according to the announcement from the government website. China-based solar firms went through a hard year in 2011. The debt crisis in Europe, the anti-dumping and anti-subsidy probe taken up by the US government and rapid price falls of solar products have been hindering the firms from generating profits. Large-size solar firms such as Yingli, LDK, and Suntech all reported huge losses for third-quarter 2011. Furthermore, the industry has been speculating that Europe and India might also start their own investigations similar to the US action against China-based firms. This has been causing China's government to increase 2015 solar PV installation targets to 15GW to expand the domestic market. This new announcement of subsidies seems like another push from the government for China-based solar firms to stay in business. Source: www.digitimes.com
