The Society of Light and Lighting is hosting a lecture in Glasgow to celebrate the life and work of legendary lighting designer Jonathan Speirs.
Mark Major, long-term creative partner and fellow founder of Speirs + Major, will deliver the first Jonathan Speirs Memorial Lecture on the evening of 25th September 2014, from 6:30pm in the Satinwood Suite, at Glasgow City Chambers, Glasgow

In a lecture entitled Light + Dark = Architecture, Mark will describe his and Jonathan’s shared passion and interest in the relationship between light, dark and architecture and the philosophy behind some of Speirs + Major’s early work. He will conclude with an account of the projects carried out since Jonathan’s retirement from Speirs + Major.
The intention is for the Jonathan Speirs Memorial Lecture to be an ongoing event, seeking to promote lighting design in Scotland, building on Jonathan’s legacy. Speirs and Major has offices in Edinburgh and London.
