Biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films manufacturer Innovia Films said that it is refocusing its research and development efforts on high barrier materials, supported by investment in new assets.
The company will manufacture a range of new BOPP products with optimum barrier performance.
It will initially introduce high barrier metallised films to market, before AlOx clear high barrier films and coextruded oxygen barrier films.
Innovia Films global business manager for packaging Stephen Langstaff said the company is very close to bring the assets on stream and has already been working hard to develop new films that will help to expand the shelf life of a range of products, resulting in food waste reduction.
The company will develop options that will enable pack simplification, by eliminating or replacing layers within lamination materials that restrict recycling.
The assets will also support in the production of mono layer materials for several applications that will allow them to be more easily recycled and be included in circular economy packaging design processes.
Langstaff said: “We welcome any new enquiries around our new product portfolio and to start consultations about possibilities.”
Earlier this year, Innovia Films has added new down gauged grades to its BOPP squeezable Rayoface label facestock range.
The clear CZFA51 and while WZFA51 films offer customers the opportunity to save time and money for each step of the value chain if they move from using PE85 to Innovia’s BOPP films.
Innovia Films, which was formed in 2004 under a consortium of financial investors, produces speciality BOPP films using a bubble manufacturing process.
The company employs 850 people globally and has production sites in Australia, Belgium and the UK.
In 2016, Japanese firm Futamura acquired Innovia Films’ cellulose film business. From 1 March 2017, ownership of Innovia Films passed to CCL Industries.
