Solar cell makers have wanted to increase prices but many firms lack order visibility. Hence, despite the consensus to increase quotes, fewer firms are taking action. The prices of solar products have dropped significantly in 2011. Solar cell makers indicated that the severe price drops have been easing around November and demand has been returning; hence firms are optimistic about the industry in 2012. Many solar cell makers have been refusing to quote lower than US$0.50/watt. Taiwan-based solar cell maker Solartech reported December revenues NT$213 million (US$7 million), down close to 50% on month. However, Solartech noted that January 2012 orders and capacity utilization rates are both likely to show large increases. Source: www.digitimes.com
