The first images and details of the Nissan GT-R Nismo have been leaked just hours out from its official unveiling at the Tokyo motor show.
Spied lapping Germany’s Nurburgring in September, the Nissan GT-R Nismo is the result of even further advancement of the supercar by the Japanese manufacturer’s official high-performance division.
Finished in white with black 20-inch alloy wheels, a special red-trimmed body kit comprising new front and rear bumpers, side skirts, and an expansive rear spoiler, the GT-R Nismo is said to now produce 444kW and 650Nm-plus from its twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V6.
Up 40kW and more than 22Nm on the standard GT-R, the Nismo model’s increases are reportedly due to revised intake and exhaust systems, modified ignition timing and larger turbochargers sourced from Nissan’s GT3-class GT-R race car.
No specific performance claims have been revealed at this stage, however reports have suggested the car has already recorded a 7:08.69 lap of the Nurburgring – albeit fitted with an optional track package.
Whether the GT-R Nismo can sharpen its 0-100km/h time from the current car’s 2.7sec to 2.0sec, as rumoured, to become the world’s fastest accelerating production car remains to be seen, though it surely will be close to knocking off the Bugatti Veyron at 2.46sec.
The Nissan GT-R Nismo is also said to gain stiffer springs and dampers, larger anti-roll bars, and reconfigured electrically adjustable dampers with three new settings ranging from ‘Track’, ‘Race’ and ‘Race Plus’ – replacing the standard car’s ‘Comfort’, ‘Normal’ and ‘R’ options.
Dubbed by Nissan as “the ultimate GT-R for the road”, the GT-R Nismo is to go on sale in Japan from February 2014 before being shipped to enthusiasts globally.
The GT-R Nismo has been heavily anticipated since the company waved its magic tuning wand over the Nissan Juke and 370Z.
Full details will follow the car’s Tokyo reveal tomorrow.
