According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in March this year Turkey's rebar (including round bar) exports amounted to 818,254 metric tons, the highest level in 12 months, increasing by 23.9 percent compared to the previous month and down four percent year on year. Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these exports totaled $488 million, rising by 24.1 percent compared to the previous month and down 10.8 percent from March 2012.
Meanwhile, in the first quarter of 2013 Turkey's rebar exports stood at 2 million metric tons, decreasing 4.1 percent compared to the previous quarter and down 11.7 percent year on year, while the total revenue from these exports amounted to $1.2 billion, decreasing by 18 percent as compared to the same period of 2012.
In the first quarter of the year, Turkey's rebar exports to the Middle East, its main rebar destination, fell for the second quarter on quarter-on-quarter basis following four consecutive quarters of increase. In the period in question, Turkey exported 1.1 million mt of rebar to the Middle East, falling 2.5 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2012 and up 14.85 percent year on year. Turkey's rebar exports to the European Union amounted to 104,209 mt in the first quarter of the year, rising on quarter-on-quarter basis for the third quarter and up strongly compared to the 29,539 mt recorded in the first quarter of 2012.
