US President Barack Obama has promised to fight for a free internet, during a question and answer session on social networking site Reddit.
Barack Obama posted an “ask me anything” invitation on Reddit about an hour before responding to questions, according to US reports.
Obama later verified the post by tweeting about it from his campaign account and posting a picture of himself, reading Reddit questions off a laptop after a rally in Charlottesville.
“Internet freedom is something I know you all care passionately about; I do too. We will fight hard to make sure that the internet remains the open forum for everybody - from those who are expressing an idea to those to want to start a business,” Obama said.
“And although there will be occasional disagreements on the details of various legislative proposals, I won't stray from that principle - and it will be reflected in the platform.”
In closing, Obama said the session on Reddit was an example of how technology can empower the sorts of conversations that strengthen democracy.
