Giant Has Announced Plans to Build a New $50 Million (Nt$1.5 Billion) Headquarters

Giant has announced plans to build a new $50 million (NT$1.5 billion) headquarters and research and development complex by 2016.

Taiwan’s No. 1 bicycle manufacturer says it needs more room for its factory, which will eventually expand to use the space now occupied by the headquarters. And because the new headquarters will be more centrally located in Taichung, Taiwan’s third-largest city, it will be easier to attract talented employees, Giant spokesman Jeffrey Sheu said.

“We need more professional people to join Giant. With our headquarters in Taichung, I think it will be easier to hire good people,” Sheu said in an interview. He said Giant also intends to focus more intensively on developing products for women under its Liv line, and will expand its offering of gear and accessories including apparel, sunglasses and helmets.

Sheu said the new headquarters would be located at the Central Taiwan Science Park in Taichung, roughly 20 miles from Giant’s existing complex in the Dajia district of Greater Taichung.
