Paper-based packaging solutions provider Smurfit Kappa, along with printing inks and coatings producer Sun Chemical, has developed new digital laser-based coding solution to fulfill customer packaging and labelling requirements.
SunLase system, which uses no inks or chemicals in the production, is a better form of coding compared to labels and printing. It is available in white and transparent laser-sensitive ink.
The partnership has developed new packaging coding solution for secondary cartons.
The new coding solution incorporates Smurfit Kappa’s flexo printed corrugated boxes with Sun Chemical’s SunLase activated coating system, which will help customers to laser mark packaging at the end of manufacturing operations.
Designed to replace direct thermal labeling, the new solution holds capacity to laser mark at the typical speed of an automated packing line.
Widely tested within the FMCG sector, the late stage solution is being successfully used on packaging for leading companies.
