The Provincial Council of Najaf province decided at its regular Sunday session to prevent importing cement according to a mechanism adopted by the economic committee of the council.
The member of Najaf Provincial Council, Khalid al-Jaishami, reported in a statement received by local media on Sunday "The resolution which was taken by the council to prevent importing the foreign cement material into Najaf province will be applied gradually.
"The first stage will begin within three months of the resolution endorsement date," he added, stressing that "The production of the local cement should be activated by the Southern General Company of Cement."
