Chinese Sporting Goods Market could accelerate with a professional approach, according to a report released last week by the Social Sciences Academic Press and Beijing Sports College. During the first nine months of 2013, it said China’s sporting goods industry sales rose 10.6% to 79.7 billion yuan ($9.48 bb) to generate a 3.4% increase in profits to 3.2 billion yuan ($380.8 mm). Last year, China had 894 sporting goods manufacturers in business, employing more than 267,000.
Still, China’s overall sporting goods market has been decelerating over the last three years due to a lack of involvement from the private sector and no professional administration and marketing infrastructure, according to Eric Ho, executive director of Peking University’s Research Institute for Sport Science.
