Rhodes Food Group has announced plans to acquire 100% stake in South African juice maker Pacmar for $14m.
An agreement to this effect was signed by the companies.
The acquisition is in line with Rhodes' strategy to expand its business through extensions into new product categories, besides its current product ranges.
Founded in 1997, Pacmar operates its business from Wellington in the Western Cape, South Africa.
Pacmar makes and distributes fruit juice products in the local, regional and international markets under various third party brands, private label programmes as well as its own brands such as Wilde, Amazing, Zing and Chrystal Falls.
Its products include fruit juices and other beverages, which are packed in both aseptic and preserved formats.
Rhodes Food currently operates two fruit plants in the Western Cape and Swaziland which produce a wide range of fruit purees and juice concentrates.
Commenting on the acquisition, Rhodes Food was quoted as saying by CNBCAfrica.com: "The acquisition offers a significant opportunity to add further value to these products. The board of Rhodes is of the view that good synergies will arise from the acquisition and that Rhodes is well placed to add value to the Pacmar business."
