Mitsubishi to Provide Diamondspirit Newspaper Offset Presses for Kobe Shimbun

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Printing & Packaging Machinery (MHI-PPM) has secured an order to provide two sets of Diamondspirit newspaper offset presses for Kobe Shimbun.

The presses will be installed at the newspaper company’s new facility in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture.

Himeji facility is expected to commence operations in spring 2019.

With an ability to print up to 160,000 newspapers per hour, the Diamondspirit can reduce the usage of printing plates to half compared against conventional printing presses.

The company has added an advanced technology to the presses to reduce vibrations when plate cylinders rotate, helping to improve print quality. It is also coming with the reduced size and weight than previous machines.

Kobe Shimbun purchased two sets of offset presses from MHI-PPM in 1999, and work was undertaken to increase the number of printing units in 2006.

Kobe Shimbun distributes around 530,000 copies of the morning edition and about 190,000 copies of the evening edition in Hyogo Prefecture.

Part of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, MHI-PPM manufactures printing machinery products and paper converting machinery products.

The printing machinery products comprised of sheet-fed offset presses, commercial web and newspaper web.

The paper converting machinery products include corrugated machinery, box making machine and others.

In addition, the firm operates a printing press and paper converting machinery service center to provide better services for the customers.
