Healthcare products company Covidien has been awarded with $176.5m verdict in patent litigation against Ethicon Endo-Surgery,a Johnson & Johnson company.
The suit filed is related to Ethicon's Harmonic line of ultrasonic surgical products that are made by infringing Covidien's US Patents 6,063,050, 6,468,286, and 6,682,544.
The federal court found that Ethicon infringed Covidien's US Patents each relating to ultrasonic cutting and coagulation surgical devices.
Covidien advanced surgical technologies president Chris Barry said the company is pleased that the federal court recognized its innovation in ultrasonic surgical devices, finding its patents both valid and infringed by Ethicon Endo-Surgery.
"We will continue to vigorously protect our innovative products, solutions and intellectual property," Barry added.
