The 2014 Holden Colorado and Holden Colorado 7 have been updated with a more powerful engine, updated infotainment system and improved safety less than two years after the current generation was launched.
The Holden Colorado ute and Holden Colorado 7 SUV have both been updated with a new Duramax 2 diesel engine and a six-speed manual gearbox, which replaces the five-speed.
The 2.8-litre turbodiesel has seen power increase from 132kW to 147kW for both manual and automatic variants while torque remains the same for manual models (although the torque RPM band has been significantly improved for better towing capacity) while the six-speed automatic models get a bump from 470Nm to 500Nm.
Holden has dropped the unpopular 2.5-litre diesel engine option.
The Holden Colorado range is the third best selling model for Holden with a buyer retention rate of forty percent and is available in four body styles and four trim levels.
The engine updates make it the class leading four-cylinder ute in the market (beaten by the six-cylinder Nissan Navara ST-X 500) in terms of power, torque and towing capacity (3,500kg).
Additional updates for the model year 2014 include front seat side airbags for all models except those with a rear bench seat, rear parking sensors for all utes, standard reversing camera on LTZ utes, optional reversing camera on all models with MyLink screen (from December), vinyl floor on LX single and crew cabs and the availability of orange rock colour for LTZ variants.
As part of its modernisation program, Holden has now fitted 70 percent of its cars with the new 7-inch MyLink system that brings the latest in smartphone connectivity. The Holden Colorado ute and SUV are the latest to get the enhanced system.
The 7-inch screen allows for Bluetooth connectivity of up to five phones, Apple’s Siri eyes free mode, Pandora (music streaming service like spotify or iTunes radio), Stitcher (podcast streaming service), tunein (digital radio steraming) and Bringgo satellite navigation system, which runs from a smartphone but locally stores the maps rather than using mobile data.
Holden engineers have also added trailer sway control system, hill start assist and hill descent control system.
The additional features and updates are available with basically no price increase except on automatic variants which get a $200 bump in price.
