Australian packaging company Amcor will showcase AmLite, the company’s latest metal-free packaging technology that is capable of creating a lightweight, transparent material, at PackExpo in Las Vegas.
Amcor used a micro-thin transparent barrier layer called Amcor Barrier Coating to develop the latest packaging.
The technology produces lightweight material with barrier levels that are similar to aluminium. However, it is 21%lighter when compared to standard aluminium based material. It also provides a 40% carbon footprint reduction.
AmLite uses special high performance grades of PE or OPP sealant, which provides good performance on packing machines and a reliable seal.
Amcor Flexibles Europe & Americas marketing director Wojciech Skalbani said: "AmLite can offer a significant environmental benefit by reducing material use.
"Additionally, it can help our customers ensure product safety by allowing the use of metal detectors after packs are filled and sealed.
According to Amcor, AmLite can be used for wet and dry food products, and for medical and personal care including powders and lotions.
It allows users to create different pack formats, including regular, stand up and spouted pouches, flow packs, and sachets.
The company is also likely to launch SecurePlus, a child-resistant (CR) closure for ophthalmic packaging at the show.
SecurePlus is a 15-mm diameter polypropylene (PP) closure which is designed for containers ranging from 5ml to 60ml which is used for squeezable eye drop and nasal spray products.
